Student Foundation will sponsor Bearathon, a 13.1 mile half-marathon, for Baylor University students, faculty and staff and members of the Waco community at 8 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28. The competition, which has replaced the traditional Bear Downs bicycle race, is Student Foundation's scholarship fundraiser for Baylor students.
The race will begin at 8 a.m. and go from Fountain Mall on Baylor's campus through Cameron Park and Downtown Waco before finishing back at campus. The course is estimated to take three hours and will close at noon.
The race has three divisions: Baylor students, Baylor faculty and staff, and community. Participants must be 18 or older. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three male and top three female finishers in each category. Winners for first place will receive $300, second place $200 and third place $100.
Participants must check in between 7 and 7:45 a.m. at Fountain Mall before the race begins. Information packets will also be available during this time. Participants will receive a navy t-shirt, and, in addition, all finishers will receive a long-sleeve white shirt. A light blue t-shirt is also available for the general public to purchase.
Registration will continue through Friday, Feb. 27 in the Student Foundation office in the basement of Roxy Grove Hall. The fee for late registration is $45.
