Women's History Month Lecture To Examine Lives of "The Two Elizabeths"

Caroline Rayman of the British Museum in London will present a lecture and slide show on "The Two Elizabeths" in celebration of Women's History Month. The March 2 presentation, to be held at 7 p.m. in Room 149 of the Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center, is free and open to the public. Rayman will compare the lives of the two British monarchs named Elizabeth and illustrate with slides from the rich collection of artifacts at the British Museum.
Elizabeth I, daughter of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn, inherited a bankrupt nation torn by religious strife in 1559. She never married or had children, ruled for 44 years and died at age 70.
Elizabeth II, daughter of George VI and Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, the Queen Mother, became monarch in the aftermath of World War II and the beginning of the Cold War. At 77 years old and married with four children, she is currently serving in her 52nd year as queen.
