CDD Symposium To Feature Brain Drug Researcher Feb. 17

Dr. Quentin Smith, a researcher in the development of central nervous system drugs, will speak on "Designing Drugs to Cross the Blood-Brain Barrier" at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, in room 510 of the Cashion Building on the Baylor University campus. The Winter Symposium is sponsored by the department of psychology and neuroscience and the Center for Drug Discovery.
Smith, who worked for 17 years at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), where he was section chief for the National Institute on Aging, has focused his research on drug interactions in the brain. In 1995, he was awarded the NIH Merit Award for his work on drug delivery to the brain. He currently serves as a professor and chair of the department of pharmaceutical science in the School of Pharmacy at the Texas Tech Health Science Center.
An internationally recognized speaker, Smith is the author of more than 100 journal articles and book chapters and serves on the advisory board of the Journal of Pharmacology and Therapeutics.
Baylor's Center for Drug Discovery is an interdisciplinary endeavor of the departments of chemistry and biochemistry, biology, and psychology and neuroscience to facilitate research projects across a spectrum of disciplines. The Center fosters collaborative interactions among faculty, post-doctoral researchers, students and outside collaborators to support excellence in research and to develop compounds that will benefit humankind.
