Feb. 4 Guest Recital Features Bassoon And Piano

Bassoonist Lecolion Washington, a member of the woodwind faculty at the University of Missouri, will perform a guest recital at Baylor University on Wednesday, February 4, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in Meadows Recital Hall, located within the Glennis McCrary Music Building. He will be joined by pianist Mark Nichols, also of the University of Missouri music faculty.
During his time as a student in Texas, Mr. Washington performed with the Austin Civic Chorus Orchestra, the New Texas Festival Orchestra, the Mid-Texas Symphony, the Garland/Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra, and the Victoria Symphony Orchestra, where he was principal bassoon. While in New York City, Washington performed with the Riverside Symphony Orchestra and the Manhattan Chamber Orchestra as principal bassoonist. He appeared in chamber music programs with the Circadia Wind Quintet, the New York Chamber Ensemble, and the North Country Chamber Players with principal players from such orchestras as the Minnesota Orchestra, the Orpheus Chamber Ensemble, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. Professor Washington has also given chamber music performances with principal players from the New York Philharmonic Orchestra and Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, and he won orchestral auditions with the Victoria Symphony Orchestra, the Shanghai Broadcasting Orchestra, and the Houston Grand Opera before accepting the position at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
The Baylor recital by Lecolion Washington and Mark Nichols will offer Vivaldi's Bassoon Concerto in E minor, RV 484, an arrangement of the familiar aria "Una voce poco fa" from Gioacchino Rossini's opera The Barber of Seville, the Sonatina for Bassoon and Piano by Alexandre Tansman, and the Paraphrase on Mozart's Overture to "The Marriage of Figaro" by the late American composer Romeo Cascarino.
