Percussionist Performs Faculty Recital Feb. 8

Todd Meehan, visiting lecturer of percussion in the Baylor University School of Music, will present a faculty recital at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, in Meadows Recital Hall, which is located within the Glennis McCrary Music Building.
Meehan holds a master of music degree from Yale University and a bachelor of music degree from the University of Texas. For the past five years, he has been a member of the So Percussion Group, a professional chamber music ensemble dedicated to the performance and advancement of new percussion works. As a member of So, he has worked with some of today's foremost composers, including Steve Reich and David Lang, and has co-commissioned more than 15 new works for percussion quartet.
An active performer with professional and festival orchestras throughout the United States, Europe, and Japan, Meehan has appeared on concert stages with such notable conductors as Christoph Eschenbach, Michael Tilson Thomas, Gunther Schuller, Myung-Whung Chung and Robert Spano. He can be heard on two recordings with the Pacific Music Festival Orchestra on the Art Support Series label.
Meehan's Baylor program will open with Khan Variations by Alejandro Viñao and Rebonds a by Iannis Xenakis. Accompanied by Professor of Saxophone Michael Jacobson, he will play Excursions by American composer and Baylor alumnus Charles Rochester Young.
Following intermission, Meehan will be joined by Associate Professor of Viola Kathryn Steely in a performance of Paul Chihara's Redwood. He will close the program with Time for Marimba by Minoru Miki.
