Homebuilder Weekley To Speak At Baylor University Jan. 27
David Weekley, chairman of the second-largest, privately owned homebuilding company in the United States, will speak at Baylor University's Hankamer School of Business at noon Tuesday, Jan. 27, in the fifth floor Cashion Room. Weekley will discuss "Success vs. Significance" at the luncheon, sponsored by the Ben H. Williams Distinguished Speakers Series.
Weekley founded David Weekley Homes in 1976 at the age of 23. He was the first homebuilder to win the "Triple Crown of American Homebuilding," with the awards of America's Best Builder, National Builder of the Year (twice) and the National Housing Quality Award.
A leader in the community, Weekley chairs the Greater Houston Community Foundation, serves on the board of trustees of The Kinkaid School and is an executive committee member and former chair of the Sam Houston Area Council of Boy Scouts of America. He has served as chair of the steering committee of the Metro Houston Young Life, a member of the board of directors for St. Luke's Episcopal Health Charities, president of the Greater Houston Builder's Association and the Young Presidents Organization, and executive board member of Houston's Star of Hope. He has recently written a book on home buying, "How to Buy a Home Without Getting Hammered."
Since 1999, the Ben H. Williams Distinguished Speakers Series has enabled Baylor students and community leaders to hear from top executives, including James Beard, Caterpillar Inc.; Dr. Supachai Panitchpakdi, World Trade Organization; Li Yifei, Viacom's MTV China; and David Dyer, Lands' End Inc.
