School of Music Showcases Brightest Talents

Spotlighting some of the School of Music's brightest talents, Baylor University's annual Fall Honor Concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 2, in Roxy Grove Hall.

Participation in the concert is among the highest recognitions of achievement that can be given to a School of Music student or group. The 11 participants are chosen by School of Music faculty.

"At Baylor, we are blessed with a large collection of very fine young musicians, so choosing the best among them is very difficult," said Dr. William May, dean of the School of Music.

Johann Sebastian Bach's Concerto in A minor performed by organist Jordan Peek, will be the opening performance. Faculty pianists Kae Hosaoda-Ayer and Andrew Hudson will perform as well.

"Basically, we try to represent each of the different divisions in the school of music," said Lesley Sisterhen McAllister, assistant professor of piano and coordinator of the Fall Honor Concert.
Three pieces by American composer John Luther Adams will close the program. Percussionists Bobby Fajardo, Bobby McCullagh, Daniel Medina, and Tyson Voigt will perform Coyote Builds North America, Giving Birth to Thunder and Playing with Fire.
"Students should expect to hear the best performers in the school of music and to be really impressed by the level of singing and playing," McAllister said.
