Baylor University faculty, staff and students are invited to view "Christmas at Baylor," KWBU-TV's first nationally distributed PBS program, which will air on public television stations across the country in December.
The screenings will be held at 1 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, in the SBC Theater in the Harry and Anna Jeanes Discovery Center on University Parks Drive. Parking will be available adjacent to the Gov. Bill and Vara Daniel Historic Village. Faculty, staff and students are asked to enter the Discovery Center through the northwest doors facing the Hughes-Dillard Alumni Center.
Co-produced by KWBU and Emmy Award-winning Brandenburg Productions, "Christmas at Baylor" features the Baylor Choral Union, Baylor Symphony Orchestra, Baylor A Capella Choir, Baylor Chamber Singers and the Baylor Brass in a one-hour program of sacred Christmas music shot in several campus venues. Glennis McCrary Music Building's Jones Concert Hall, Armstrong Browning Library's McLean Foyer of Meditation, George W. Truett Theological Seminary's Piper Great Hall and the Burleson Quadrangle served as settings for the HDTV program, which was taped in December 2002.
Several stations and statewide networks will be using a pledge version of the show during their December membership drives, and many stations - including KWBU - will be simulcasting the program in HDTV on their digital channels.
"We are very pleased by the interest stations around the country are showing in 'Christmas at Baylor,'" said Executive Producer Larry D. Brumley, president of Brazos Valley Public Broadcasting Foundation. "All indications are that the program will reach the vast majority of U.S. public television households in the month of December. The fact several stations and statewide networks requested pledge versions of the program speaks to how well it has been received. It's the ultimate compliment when stations believe a program can help them raise money during their membership drives."
In addition to a three-year agreement with PBS to distribute the program through its National Program Service, viewers will be able to purchase DVD, VHS and CD copies of the program through KWBU, according to Vice President and General Manager Kliff Kuehl, the program's other executive producer.
More information, including updates on station air dates and times can be checked online at Christmas at Baylor. DVDs, CDs and tapes may also be ordered online at the same web site beginning in December.
Major underwriting for "Christmas at Baylor" has been provided by Crothall Services Group and Baylor Health Care System.
