Baylor's School of Music Lyceum Series Begins Sept. 14

Composer and humorist Peter Schickele, ethnomusicologist David Huron and the American Brass Quintet are among the guest performing this year at Baylor University's School of Music Lyceum Series, Sept. 14 through May 1.

The Free Lyceum Series offers Baylor students and the surrounding community an opportunity to participate in an exciting program from musical insights.

"Many individuals from outside the Waco area have made an annual practice of attending these events, and the concerts offered through the Lyceum Series attract music lovers from as far away as Austin, College Station, and the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex," said Richard Veit, concert and promotional manager at Baylor University School of Music.

The activities vary with each guest but they may include performances, informal discussions, lectures, recitals and lecture-recitals from visiting composers.

"In applied music, the presentation most often takes the form of master classes, in which the master teacher works with individual students or small ensembles in front of a group," Veit said.

The Lyceum Series is a program designed to bring people together and have them gain from the musical intuition of the guest performers.

? Lecture with Robin Leaver, authority on J. S. Bach, at 4 p.m., Sept. 14 in Meadows Recital Hall in the Glennis McCrary Music Building.

? Master Class with American Brass Quintet at 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m., Sept. 28 in Glennis McCrary Music Building and Blackbox Opera Theater.

? Master Class with American Brass Quintet at 11:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m., Sept. 29, in Jones Concert Hall in the Glennis McCrary Music Building.
