Concert Orchestra To Perform Nov. 19

The Baylor University Concert Orchestra will present its first concert of the 2003-2004 season at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, in Jones Concert Hall in the Glennis McCrary Music Building. The 23-member string orchestra, comprised of non-music majors, will be conducted by Lisa Maynard, assistant professor of instrumental music education.
The program will open with Andante Festivo by Finnish composer Jean Sibelius. Two soloists -- oboist Euridice Alvarez and violinist Corey Spratlan -- will join the orchestra for a performance of Johann Sebastian Bach's Concerto in C minor for Oboe and Violin, BWV 1060.
The Concert Orchestra will follow with "Take III: A Tribute to the Movies," featuring two pieces by John Williams -- the main theme from "Schindler's List" and "Harry's Wondrous World" from "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets." The orchestra also will perform "Colonel Hathi's March" from Walt Disney's "The Jungle Book," written by brothers Robert and Richard Sherman.
The concert will conclude with Ashokan Farewell by American fiddler/composer Jay Ungar.
