Renowned Hornist To Perform At Baylor Oct. 26

Renowned hornist Thomas Bacon -- former principal French horn with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Houston Symphony Orchestra and the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra -- will present a guest recital at Baylor University at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, in Roxy Grove Hall. He will be joined by pianist Elvia Puccinelli, director of the collaborative piano program at Baylor.
Their program will open with a pair of German compositions evoking life amidst nature: Jagdstnck ("Hunting Piece") by Emil Kronke and Im tiefsten Walde ("In the Depths of the Forest") by Heinrich Kaspar Schmid. They also will perform American composer Jeffrey Agrell's September Elegy and Camille Saint-Saëns's Morceau de concert, Op. 94.
Following intermission, Bacon will present a work for horn solo, Bernhard Krol's Laudatio. Joined again by Puccinelli, Bacon will play a transcribed set of love songs, including Robert Schumann's "Er, der Herrlichste von allen," Antonio Caldara's "Sebben, Crudele," Enrique Granados's "Andaluza" and "Che gelida manina" from Giacomo Puccini's La Bohème.
The program will conclude with Three Hymn Tune Settings ("Abide with Me," "Amazing Grace" and "Shall We Gather at the River") by American composer and hornist Paul Basler, who now serves on the faculty of the University of Florida.
