Baylor ShowTime! will hold its annual spring performance at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 3, and at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, April 4, in Jones Theater at the Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Building on the Baylor University campus.
Baylor ShowTime!, a 13-member group of singers, dancers and instrumentalists, was founded in 1980 by its director, Dr. Leta Horan, associate professor of piano. It is now led by newly appointed director and pianist, Daniel Farris. The ensemble performs choreographed review-style shows regularly at Baylor and other community events and has traveled extensively throughout the United States, Central America and Europe. The group's long-time choreographer is Jerry MacLauchlin. Horan still plays a prominent role in the group's concerts as artistic consultant.
This year's program will travel back to offer such pop hits as "Splish Splash," "Chantilly Lace," "Sincerely," "Mr. Sandman," "My Prayer," "Mr. Lee," "Rockin' Robin," "Sway," "Monster Mash" and "Lydia, the Tattooed Lady."
Among the musicals from which Baylor ShowTime! will choose excerpts are South Pacific, West Side Story, Damn Yankees, Sweeney Todd, The Threepenny Opera, The Pajama Game, City of Angels and Gypsy.
Television and the movies also will be represented with musical numbers from White Christmas and 101 Dalmatians, plus the lively theme tune from TV's "American Bandstand."
General admission tickets are available for $8 from Baylor University's theater department box office. Tickets for students and children are priced at $5. For further ticket information, please call (254) 710-1865.
