Baylor to Host Accomplished Theology and Worship Expert

Baylor University's School of Music will present the 23rd annual Northcutt Lecture, featuring Donald Saliers, Distinguished Professor of Theology and Worship at Emory University's Candler School of Theology. Saliers will present his lecture - "Terror and Beauty, Lament and Praise: What Difference Does Music Make?" - at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, in the Meadows Recital Hall at the Glennis McCrary Music Building on the Baylor campus.

The event, which is free and open to the public, brings nationally and internationally known scholars in church music to Baylor.

Saliers attended Ohio Wesleyan, Yale Divinity School, Cambridge University and received his doctorate degree from Yale University. Since 1974, Saliers taught at Emory University and retired in 2007.

For the past 35 years, Saliers has been choirmaster and organist at Emory University's Cannon Chapel. He has contributed to the United Methodist Hymnal, The Book of Worship and the Upper Room Worshipbook. In 2007, Saliers served as the editor of Sounding Glory, a hymn collection published by Oregon Catholic Press.

As an author and co-author, Saliers has published 15 books and more than 100 essays and book chapters. Among his recent publications are "Filled With Light," "Worship As Theology: Foretaste of Glory Divine" and "Worship and Spirituality."
