Dr. John Chalberg to Give Lecture and Impersonation of G.K. Chesterson

Dr. John C. "Chuck" Chalberg will lecture on the life of G.K. Chesterson at 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, in the Alexander Reading Room on the Baylor campus. Following the lecture Chalberg will give an impersonation of Chesterson at 7 p.m. in the Mayborn Museum SBC Theater. The lecture, which is free and open to the public, is part of the Honors College Lecture Series and sponsored by the Center for Ministry Effectiveness and Educational Leadership.

Chalberg is a known for his historical impersonation of American and British figures, including Theodore Roosevelt, H.L. Mencken, Chesterton, George Orwell, Branch Rickey, Bobby Jones, Huey Long and Patrick Henry. He began his characterizations as an American history teacher at Normandale Community College in Bloomington, Minn.

Chalberg was recently highlighted as the featured resource in the fall 2006 edition of Cross Ties, a publication of The Mid-Atlantic Regional Center for the Humanities.

The character that Chalberg will impersonate and lecture on, G.K. Chesterson was one of the most influential Christian thinkers and writers of the early 20th century, as well as an accomplished poet, novelist, essayist and biographer. One of Chesterson's most noted works is his book, The Everlasting Man.

"Chesterton is a popular author with our undergraduates," said Dr. Thomas Hibbs, dean of the Honors College. "Chesterson writes with clarity and humor about what it means to be a Christian in the modern world."

The Honors College Lecture Series is held throughout the fall and spring semesters on a variety of topics and is designed to stimulate thought and discussion.
