Bill Cosby will stage a rally for Baylor University students, faculty, staff and the Central Texas community at 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at Floyd Casey Stadium.
"Baylor is a great university, and I want to come do this rally to lift the spirits of the Baylor and Central Texas communities after the tragic and difficult summer that the university has experienced," Cosby said. "Over the years I have come to know some of the outstanding students, faculty and staff at Baylor, and I know it's been a tough few months for them. So I want to let the world know what a great place this is."
Cosby, who performed at Baylor in 1990 and 2002, called Baylor President Robert B. Sloan Jr. last week and offered to come do the rally free of charge in order to celebrate Baylor's Christian mission and highlight the university's positive attributes.
"Bill Cosby is not only a highly-admired entertainer, he also is a strong supporter of education," Sloan said. "He believes in the importance of education in our society, and he has used his gifts and talents to advance the cause of education throughout the United States. I cannot adequately express how grateful we are that he has made this generous offer of assistance. We look forward to having him back at Baylor."
Tickets will not be required for the event, but sections of the stadium's west side will be designated for Baylor students, faculty and staff, who will need an ID to gain access to the reserved seating. Overflow seating will be available on the east side of the stadium. All seating is first-come, first-served. No coolers, backpacks or large bags will be allowed into the stadium. Gates will open at 6 p.m.
