Baylor Law Student, Fraternity Lauded At Los Angeles Convention

Baylor law student Traylor Rains and the Alexander Senate of Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity International at Baylor Law School were honored at the fraternity's recent biennial convention in Los Angeles.
Rains, who is president of the Alexander Senate, received on the senate's behalf the Alden L. Doud Memorial Award for the largest percentage increase in membership for the academic year 2002 - 2003, when membership of the Alexander Senate went from 0 to 50 members.
Additionally, Rains was presented with a plaque after being named the Most Outstanding Student of the Fraternity for Region II. Rains, who is from Victoria, Texas, is entering his seventh quarter at Baylor Law School.
Delta Theta Phi is made up of over 75 active senates internationally and is governed by a Supreme Senate which is comprised of seven alumni members and two student members. Elections for these positions were also held at the biennial convention. Rains and a student from Southern University Law Center in Louisiana were elected for a two-year term to serve as the Student Members of the Supreme Senate. As a Student Member, Rains will be responsible for coordinating all of the fraternity's senates in Texas and Oklahoma as well as represent the fraternity on an international level.
The Alexander Senate at Baylor Law School is named in honor of James P. Alexander who served as one of the original faculty members at Baylor Law School when it reopened in 1920. He developed the renowned Practice Court program, which he taught for more than 20 years. Alexander served more than 25 years on the bench in Texas and was the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Texas from 1941 to 1948.
