Parents can experience what life is like as a "Baylor Bear" through various traditions and activities as Baylor University hosts 2008 Parents Weekend on Friday, Oct. 10, and Saturday, Oct. 11, on the Baylor campus.

A Baylor tradition since 1960, the annual event gives families of Baylor students the opportunity to learn more about the community and lifestyle on campus. Parents can experience Baylor's unique traditions, history, academic excellence, athletic programs and student talent with several scheduled events.

On Friday from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Bill Daniel Student Center, parents will receive information and tickets for After Dark performances and Dinner on the Grounds.

All Friday afternoon, Baylor will host "Baylor in Focus," an exhibit in the student center's Barfield Drawing Room that highlights various opportunities on campus. Another cherished Baylor tradition, Dr Pepper floats, will be available at that time.

Families may also take a guided tour of the Baylor campus to gain further insight on Baylor's rich history. Tours will be run by members of Student Foundation and the Baylor Chamber and will start from the center of the campus at Fountain Mall.

The Paul L. Foster Success Center, in the newly-renovated Sid Richardson building, will also have an open house all Friday afternoon. Tours will begin at 2:30 p.m. and will highlight services provided through the success center. Refreshments will be provided.

Five of Baylor's vocal ensembles will present a choral concert at 5 p.m. at the Jones Concert Hall in the Glennis McCrary Music Building. Included on the program are Baylor ShowTime!, Concert Choir, Women's Choir, Men's Choir and A Cappella Choir. This event is free of charge and open to the public.

On Friday at 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., families are invited to enjoy Baylor's talented students at one of the two performances of After Dark. Between After Dark performances, parents may attend the Dessert Party outside of the Baylor Sciences Building. Fresh pies, cakes, cookies and ice cream will be served, while families listen to the sounds of a classically trained jazz ensemble.

For early risers on Saturday, families can meet and greet their son or daughter's professors, while enjoying coffee and pastries, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Parent-Faculty Coffee in Burleson Quadrangle.

Dinner on the Grounds will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Founders Mall, where families will be able to unwind while listening to a welcome from a member of the Baylor administration and a visit by one of Baylor's live bear mascots.

Finally, families can attend the Big 12 football game between the Baylor Bears and the Iowa State Cyclones at 6 p.m. Saturday at Floyd Casey Stadium. Tickets are available at (254) 710-1000.

Tickets for Dinner on the Grounds and After Dark are available online at the Parents Weekend Web site.
