Baylor Alumnus to Speak on the Challenges of Community Healthcare

Baylor University's Academy for Leader Development and Civic Engagement will host Dr. Roland Goertz from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 30, in the Kayser Auditorium in the Hankamer School of Business. Goertz will continue the Leadership Lecture Series with a presentation on "Leadership in Social Contemporary Issues."
Goertz, who received a masters in business administration degree from Baylor in 2003, is executive director of the Heart of Texas Community Health Center and McLennan County Medical and Education Research Foundation. Goertz is an active member of several volunteer county, state and national professional organizations, such as the American Academy of Family Physicians, Waco Rotary Club, Waco Community Health Action Partners, the Waco Business League, Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce where he is chair-elect, and a trustee of the Cooper Foundation of Waco.
In the lecture on Tuesday, Goertz will discuss the challenges of community healthcare. As an advocate for requiring healthcare funding for low income and uninsured patients, Goertz will discuss ways to strategically change the culture of funding healthcare for the greater good.
"Dr. Goertz is amazing and his calling to healthcare is a story that is inspiring and has to be heard by our student leaders," said Ramona Curtis, director of Baylor's Academy of Leader Development and Civic Engagement.
The Leadership Lecture Series is aimed at introducing students to the variety and complexity of leadership needs in contemporary society. Each lecture focuses on one of the Academy's leadership concentrations: leadership and contemporary social issues, leadership in public life, leadership in the Church and leadership through private enterprise.
"My hope is that students continue to see the impact Dr. Goertz leadership has on the greater community and that his calling to medicine has transformed our community," Curtis said. "This is where our students will be in their chosen vocation, transforming their communities."
The lecture is free and open to the public.
