Baylor Presents Summer Piano Institute

The Baylor University School of Music will present its annual Summer Piano Institute June 22-28 in Roxy Grove Hall on the Baylor campus. This year's Institute will host a total of 35 high school piano students from Texas and Georgia.

An opening faculty recital will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, June 22. Pianist Lesley Sisterhen will be joined by clarinetist Scott McAllister for the opening movement of Johannes Brahms's Sonata No. 1. Brian Marks will perform the "Dante" Sonata of Franz Liszt, Jane Abbott-Kirk will present six of Felix Mendelssohn's Songs Without Words and Kae Hosoda-Ayer will play the slow movement from Frédéric Chopin's Piano Sonata No. 3 and then the "Tarantella" from Liszt's Venezia e Napoli.

Baylor piano students will perform a recital at 7:30 p.m. Monday, June 23, with Sarah Warner playing the Scherzo by Charles Griffes, Katie Thompson playing Chopin's Ballade No. 3 and the first movement of Sergei Prokofieff's Sonata No. 4, Drew Sims playing Alban Berg's Piano Sonata, and Zachary Ridgway playing Franck's Prélude, Chorale, et Fugue.

On Tuesday, June 24, Baylor piano students will be featured in a 7:30 p.m. recital. Taking part will be Drew Sims (Haydn), Sharon Wellman (Poulenc and Gershwin), Philip Howard (Ned Rorem), Zachary Ridgway (Liszt) and John Elam (Nikolai Kapustin).

Baylor piano students perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 26: Mark Pedersen (Bach), Danielle Creider (Chopin), April Langston (Griffes), Josh Straub (Prokofieff) and Chris Pillsbury (William Bolcom).

The week-long series of recitals will come to a close with two events featuring many of the Institute's high-school-age students. The performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 27, and at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 28.
