Brothers Under Christ To Present Annual 'Island Party'

April 23, 2003

The Iota Chapter of Brothers Under Christ (BYX) will host its fourth annual "Island Party" from 5 p.m. to midnight Saturday, April 26, at Fountain Mall on the Baylor University campus.
The event is free and open to the public. The "Island Party" will feature local bands, as well as several national acts. Dinner will be provided for those who purchase event t-shirts, which will be available for sale.
Former Caedmon's Call vocalist Derek Webb will headline the evening. Other artists will include his wife, Sandra McCracken, as well as Blisse, April Geesbreght, Ethan Durelle and Addison Road. Christian illusionist and evangelist Brock Gill will bring his own unique message.
"Our goal is to offer a time of fellowship and fun for Baylor's students, as well as the entire Waco community," said Todd Tramonte, a Houston senior and former president of BYX. "This event is not to make our organization more popular or more known, but rather for us to serve the community in the best way we know how."
BYX sold more 1,300 t-shirts and held other fundraisers to make the event free for all who attend. The "Island Party" is presented in partnership with A Place 2BU, with significant contributions made by the Student Life Fund.
Last year's "Island Party" drew more than 2,000 people and delivered non-stop entertainment through the afternoon and into the evening. This year's party features more entertainment in a shorter time frame to encourage people to stay for the entire event.
Brothers Under Christ was started in 1985 at the University of Texas. The Baylor chapter was founded in 1999 for the purpose of establishing brotherhood and unity among college men based on the common bond of Jesus Christ.
