Baylor Students Recognized By Insurance Council
The Insurance Council of Texas (ICT) will award $5,000 in scholarships to seven Baylor University students during banquet ceremonies tonight on the Baylor campus.
The scholarships are presented to students who have taken risk management and insurance courses and excelled in their studies. Those receiving scholarships will be Ryan Neal of Fort Worth, Patrick Clagget of Collierville, Tenn., Helen Davant of San Antonio, Anna McGlothlin of Rowlett, Michael Magnuson of Woodbury, Minn., Alexandra Wilson of Murphy and Isaac Haas of Dallas.
"All of the young men and women are exceptional students, and we hope these scholarships will spur an interest in building a career in the insurance industry," said Mark Hanna, ICT's manager of public relations.
Tonight's banquet will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Harrington House, hosted by Gamma Iota Sigma, a fraternity for students studying in the field of risk management and insurance. The dinner and awards presentation will be followed at 7 p.m. by a panel discussion at the Stacy Riddle Forum on current legislative issues facing the insurance industry. The panelists include Rick Gentry, executive director of the ICT; Allen Seward, Baylor associate professor of finance and insurance; and Greg Vanek, president and chief operating officer for American Summit Insurance Co. and National Lloyds Insurance Co. in Waco.
The Insurance Council of Texas is the largest insurance trade association in the state consisting of more than 400 property and casualty insurers writing business in Texas. This is the second year in a row that the ICT has awarded scholarships to students at Baylor and the University of Texas. The University of North Texas was added this year.
