Baylor Welcomes March Chapel Speakers

Baylor University's department of University Ministries sponsors chapel in Waco Hall on Baylor's campus each Monday and Wednesday at 10 and 11 a.m. Guests for October include musicians, inspirational speakers and pastors.

Shane Claiborne, one of the founding members of The Simple Way, a faith community in Philadelphia, Pa., will speak on March 3. Claiborne is author of the book The Irresistible Revolution - Living as an Ordinary Radical. His ministry experience is varied including a 10-week stint working alongside Mother Teresa in Calcutta and a year spent serving a wealthy mega-congregation at Willow Creek Community Church outside Chicago.

Dorisanne Cooper, senior pastor of Lake Shore Baptist church in Waco, will speak at chapel on March 5. Cooper graduated from Baylor University in 1993 and continued her education to receive a Master of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1996.

Jill and Andy Gullahorn, musicians from Nashville, Tenn., will perform at chapel on March 17. Andy has recorded a number of CDs, his latest titled Reinventing the Wheel. Jill began her career as a musician touring with Caedmon's Call and Bebo Norman. She now has four CDs, the latest, Nobody's Got It All Together, helped her to be named Christ Community Music magazine's reader's choice for Independent Artist of the Year in 2002.

University Chaplain Burt Burleson will speak in chapel March 19 for the Holy Week service. He is a 1980 Baylor alumnus and former pastor of Day Spring Baptist Church in Waco.

Chris Thacker, pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Alexandria, La., will speak at chapel on March 26. Thacker joined the Emmanuel ministerial staff as pastor in February 2007 and his love for people of all ages and gifted preaching provide the Emmanuel family with excellent spiritual leadership.

Faith Roberts, coordinator of the Community Parish Nurse Program at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Ill., will speak March 31. Roberts has been a nurse for more than 30 years and holds her certification in Rehabilitation Nursing. Roberts now travels around the country giving presentations that draw on her expertise in the areas of administration, education, and clinical practice.
