Baylor University School of Music Presents Lyceum Concert Series Jan. 28

The Baylor University School of Music will present a variety of music experts including historians, conductors, musicologists, professors and musicians during the spring semester as a part of the Lyceum Concert Series beginning Monday, Jan. 28.

"The focus of the Lyceum Concert Series is on education," said Richard Veit, concert and promotions manager for the Baylor School of Music. The concert series is funded annually through the Meadows Foundation of Dallas and all events are free and open to the public.

Peter Burkholder, musicologist, Indiana University

Dr. Peter Burkholder, professor of musicology at Indiana University, will present a lecture from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 28, in Meadows Recital Hall in the Glennis McCrary Music Building on Baylor's campus.

Burkholder's research interests include 20th-century music, Charles Ives, American music, musical borrowing and musical meaning and analysis. He has received the Alfred Einstein Award from the American Musicological Society, Irving Lowens Award from the Society for American Music and an ASCAP-Deems Taylor Award. In addition, he has received the Danforth Fellowship, Rockefeller Fellowship, and American Council of Learned Societies Fellowship and is the president of the American Musicological Society and the Charles Ives Society.

Burton Kaplan, violin, Manhattan School of Music

Dr. Burton Kaplan, professor of violin and viola at New York University and member of the string faculty at the Manhattan School of Music, will present two master classes from 4 to 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 4, in the Meadows Recital Hall on Baylor's campus.

Kaplan is also the director of Performance Power, an organization dedicated to teaching a system for harnessing and integrating the powers of mind, body, and spirit in the practice room and on the stage. As a performer, Kaplan served as a member of the Cleveland Orchestra under George Szell and the Pittsburgh and American Symphonies under William Steinberg and Leopold Stokowski.

Vincent Dubois, organ

Vincent Dubois, international concert and recording artist, will present a recital at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 12, as a part of Baylor University's Midwinter Organ Conference in Jones Concert Hall in the Glennis McCrary Music Building on Baylor's campus.

Mr. Dubois serves as assistant manager of the Conservatoire National of Angers and is the organist at the Soissons Cathedral in France.

Helen Callus, viola, University of California

Dr. Helen Callus, associate professor of viola at the University of California, Santa Barbara, will present a master class from 4 to 6 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 18, in Meadows Recital Hall in the Glennis McCrary Music Building and she will perform a recital at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 19, in Roxy Grove Hall on Baylor's campus.

A native of Kent, England, Callus graduated from The Royal Academy of Music in London.

Anne Robertson, academic lecturer, University of Chicago

Dr. Anne Robertson, assistant professor of music at the University of Chicago, will present a lecture from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28, in Meadows Recital Hall in the Glennis McCrary Music Building on Baylor's campus.

Robertson is a music historian with a special interest in French medieval liturgical music, ceremony, and architecture; Guillaume de Machaut and the Ars Nova; music and mysticism; and 20th-century French music.
