Baylor Welcomes January Chapel Speakers

Baylor University's department of University Ministries sponsors chapel in Waco Hall on Baylor's campus each Monday and Wednesday at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Guests for January include inspirational speakers, authors and pastors.

Frank Thomas will speak in chapel on Jan. 23. Thomas is the senior pastor of Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church and is the CEO of Hope For Life International Inc., both in Memphis, Tenn. Thomas also serves on the advisory board of The African American Pulpit, a quarterly journal for the African-American preaching community. Thomas is the author of They Like to Never Quit Praisin' God: The Role of Celebration in Preaching and What's Love Got to Do With It? Love, Power, Sex and God. Thomas also will be speaking at 7 p.m. in Miller Chapel as a part of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration titled "Where Do We Go From Here?" presented by the Association of Black Students.

Steven Nolt will speak in chapel on Jan. 28. Nolt is the chair of the department of history and political science at Goshen College in Goshen, Ind. His most recent book, Amish Grace, How Forgiveness Transcended Tragedy, co-authored with Donald B. Kraybill and David L. Weaver-Zercher, examines the response to the widely publicized shooting at an Amish school in 2006. Nolt will explore many of the questions raised by this tragedy and the religious beliefs of the Amish that allowed them to forgive so quickly. Nolt also will be a part of the Campus Program Lecture Series at 11:45 a.m. in the Bill Daniel Student Center.

Christopher Mack will speak in chapel on Jan. 30. Mack is the resident chaplain for Penland Residence Hall. Mack received his bachelor's degree in psychology and history at the University of Texas and is currently a student at the George W. Truett Theological Seminary.
