Baylor Theatre to Present "All My Sons" Nov. 27-Dec. 2

Baylor University's theatre arts department will present Arthur Miller's American classic, "All My Sons," at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 27 through Dec. 1 and at 2 p.m. Dec. 2 in the Jones Theater in the Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center on Baylor's campus.

Famous for his plays "Death of a Salesman" and "The Crucible," Miller's 1947 production of "All My Sons" became a success on Broadway 60 years ago. The play is considered one of the finest examples of 20th century realism.

The story recounts the trials of protagonist and machine shop owner Joe Keller, a man with a seemingly perfect life filled with personal and professional successes. Past mistakes haunt Keller and force him to make a crucial decision that will have lasting repercussions on his family and others. The play is an appraisal of the "American Dream" and includes themes of denial, consequences and responsibility.

"Miller's play is a brilliant study of psychological, emotional and behavioral aspects of human existence, and I wanted to be able to work with actors and designers to reveal some of the complexity of that humanity, and tell a compelling story while doing so," said master's candidate Graham Northup who directs the play.

Northrup finds Miller's story and characters extremely applicable to today's culture. "One of my ideas has been to help the audience connect with the characters individually and understand the psychological and emotional turmoil that the characters are experiencing," he said.

Michael Summers and Victoria Eisele will star as Joe and Kate Keller. Other cast members include Joe Shovak, Cassie Bann, Sky Bennett, Noel Collins, Liz Krudewig, Justin Locklear, Adria McCauley and Alex Good-suhm.

"Audiences will love this play because it addresses topics people care about like family, love, war and the meaning of life," Summers said.
