Baylor Student Publications Receive Awards at Baptist Press Convention

The Baylor University student publications department won several awards at the 7th annual Baptist Press Collegiate Journalism Conference held in Nashville, Tenn., Oct. 11-13. The Baylor Lariat, Round Up yearbook and Focus magazine were all honored at the "Excellence in Journalism" themed event, which celebrated those with a commitment to both their faith and their journalistic work. Below is a detailed list of awards and recipients:

Lariat/Focus Awards:

1st place --Sports Writing, Will Parchman for "Rivalry stands test of time"

1st place -- Color Individual Sports Action Photography, David Poe for "Missouri Thriller"

1st place -- Color News Photography, Abbie Rosen for "Soulforce arrests"

1st place -- Color Feature Photo Story, Jon Schroeder for "Envisioning Spirituality," Focus Spring 2007

2nd place -- Feature Story, Bryan Smith for "Forgotten 25th"

2nd place -- Front Page Design, Jordan Daniel for "Sept. 11 anniversary"

3rd place -- In-Depth Writing, Kate Boswell for "Coal Debates"

3rd place -- Color Feature Photography, Laurisa Lopez for "Henna tattoo"

3rd place -- Color Feature Photo Story, Henry Chan for "CSI: Waco"

3rd place -- Overall Newspaper

1st place -- Student Life Copy, Heather Fogt

2nd place -- Sports/Club Design, Melinda Henderson
