Baylor Center for Jewish Studies Holds Holiday Celebration

Baylor University Center for Jewish Studies will hold a Jewish holiday celebration, "Chanting the Days of Awe," in honor of the Jewish New Year and the Day of Atonement. The event will take place at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, room 133 of the Marrs McLean Science Building on Baylor's campus.

Rabbi Mordechai Rotem of Temple Rodef Shalom, a local Jewish synagogue, said, "the Jewish Days of Awe focuses on soul searching and spiritual uplifting through liturgy and music." Rotem will talk about the importance of the holiday followed by a performance by visiting cantor Orit Perlman. She will sing and play instruments that display Jewish tradition from around the world.

Perlman has traveled the world from her home in Israel to share the beauty of Jewish music with others. She will explain the significance of each piece throughout her performance.

The celebration is free and open to the public. Traditional food will be served.

Baylor Center for Jewish Studies was founded in 1999. Dr. Marc Ellis, university professor of Jewish Studies, serves as director of the center.
