25th Annual Pioneer Heritage Day To Be Held April 5

March 20, 2003

Baylor University's Gov. Bill and Vara Daniel Historic Village will hold the 25th annual Pioneer Heritage Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 5. The event provides a way for visitors to learn about life in a 19th-century Texas town.
As visitors arrive at the festival, they will be greeted by bluegrass music provided by Dick Gimble and Friends. The band will be joined by nationally know fiddler Johnny Gimble, who has performed with Bob Wills, Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard and has won several Country Music Association Instrumentalist of the Year awards.
Additionally, village interpreters will perform their daily chores, including blacksmithing, spinning, quilting, fishing and gardening. Near the schoolhouse, Margaret Nwosu will tell stories, while popcorn is cooked over an open fire. Children and adults also can play old-fashioned games and make simple crafts.
The Gov. Bill and Vara Daniel Historic Village is located off University Parks Drive behind the Baylor Alumni Center. Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for senior citizens and $1 for children ages 5 to 15. Baylor students, faculty and staff and children under 5 years of age will be admitted at no charge.
