Jazz Legend Bob Mintzer Comes To Baylor

Saxophonist and jazz composer Bob Mintzer will be a guest performer in a concert by the Baylor University Jazz Ensemble at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 6, in the Jesse H. Jones Theater in the Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center.
The Jazz Ensemble performs under the direction of Alex Parker, lecturer in jazz studies.
Mintzer, in addition to appearing as a guest conductor and soloist on an ongoing basis, performs with his own big band and working jazz quartet, and also works with other bands. He performs at workshops annually, and teaches private saxophone lessons at Manhattan School of Music.
Mintzer has performed and/or recorded with such artists as Buddy Rich, Michael Franks, Take Six, Bobby McFerrin, Steve Winwood, the American Saxophone Quartet, the New York Philharmonic and Tito Puente.
The concert will feature seven of Mintzer's compositions. He also will present a series of three educational sessions -- a master class on improvisation at 4 p.m. Wednesday in room 118 of the McCrary Music Building; a clinic on "The Business of Music" at 11 a.m. Thursday in Jones Concert Hall; and a master class on saxophone at 4 p.m. Thursday in room 114 of the McCrary Music Building.
