'Monday Morning' Performs At Baylor Before Major Label Release

February 11, 2003

Monday Morning, an alternative Christian rock band, will perform in the Rising Christian Artists series at 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, at the Bobo Baptist Student Center at Baylor University.
The concert is presented by The Place 2BU, Baptist Student Ministries and the residence halls in Truett Community. The Place 2BU weekend and special events are free and open to all Baylor students. Free refreshments will be served.
The four members of Monday Morning are all from the same church in Flat Rock, N.C., where they began playing together at their youth ministry's "Extreme Life" services. The group gained widespread exposure through radio and at Christian conferences and by touring with Third Day, Skillet and the Newsboys. Their first single, "Amazed," reached number five on the national Christian rock radio charts.
"In all of 2002, Monday Morning played for more than 150,000 people as an unsigned band," said Sid Blythe, a band representative. "That's unheard of in the music world."
The band recently signed with a major label under the BMG music group. They have been in Los Angeles recording their first label record, which will be released in August 2003. Monday Morning's independent album Blind will be released nationally to Christian music stores on Feb. 18.
Jason Lewkowicz, the director of Penland Residence Hall, met Monday Morning through his brother. Lewkowicz, who is from Henderson, N.C., said that their live show was one of the best he had ever seen.
"People ask me who I compare them to," Lewkowicz said. "I think they're like Skillet or Lifehouse. They have a mainstream sound with a distinct Christian message."
