January 16, 2003

The Association of Black Students at Baylor University will sponsor several events in celebration of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. This year's theme is "MLK Celebration 2003: The Past, The Present, The Future."
Also, all Baylor administrative offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 20, for the observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. No classes will be held.
ABS will host a youth field day from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, at the Doris Miller YMCA, followed at 7 p.m. by the film "The Ghosts of Mississippi" at Baylor's Bennett Auditorium.
On Saturday, an open-microphone discussion will take place at 9 a.m. at Bledsoe-Miller Recreation Center. Community leaders, including those who were in Waco during the civil rights movement of the 1960s, will speak.
On Monday, a candlelight vigil and opening ceremony will take place at 7:30 p.m. on the front steps of the Bill Daniel Student Center. A Unity Showcase, which will include singing, dancing and poetry readings, will take place at 8 p.m. at Miller Chapel.
