Baylor Mourns Death Of Livingston Freshman; Funeral, Memorial Services Planned

The Baylor University family is mourning the loss of Katie Moseley, an 18-year-old freshman from Livingston, who died Sunday night, Oct. 29, in a two-vehicle accident on state highway 164, five miles northwest of Buffalo. The lives of two additional individuals not affiliated with Baylor were also lost in the accident.

"The entire Baylor community is shocked and saddened by this terrible tragedy and our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Katie," said Baylor President John M. Lilley. "Our faculty and staff are reaching out to minister to students during this time of profound grief. I invite the entire Baylor family to join me in prayer for those who have been touched by the tragic loss of a young and vibrant life. Our thoughts and prayers are also with the families of the others whose lives were claimed by this accident."

A spring graduate of Big Sandy High School, Katie was completing her first semester at Baylor. She had not chosen a major yet. An outdoor enthusiast, she loved playing softball and golf, but her true passion was out in the water wakeboarding and waterskiing.

"She was an absolute delight to be around and brought tremendous joy to other people," said Shannon Dean, residence hall director for North Russell Hall, where Katie lived. "You could tell she loved life because she seemed to always have a smile on her face. She was constantly doing silly things and in a remarkably short time, her happiness impacted all of us. She will be truly missed."

Visitation will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, at the Cochran Funeral Home, 406 Yaupon Ave. in Livingston.

The service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, at the Central Baptist Church, 506 North Houston St. in Livingston.

A campus memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6, in Miller Chapel on the Baylor campus.
