Grand Marshals Grant and Donell Teaff will lead the Baylor University Homecoming Parade, which will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, in downtown Waco. The world's largest and oldest homecoming parade will start on Austin Avenue and move to Fourth Street, then travel under the Interstate 35 overpass to Fifth Street on campus.
Central Texas public television station KWBU-TV will broadcast the parade live from
9 to 11 a.m. on Channel 34, with a rebroadcast scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday. The parade also will be streamed live on the Internet on http://www.baylortv.com/. Hosting this year's parade are Kliff Kuehl, KWBU general manager, and Lori Scott Fogleman, co-host of "Inside Baylor Sports." Sherry Claypool Kuehl, morning show anchor for Waco's KXXV-TV and a former Baylor homecoming queen, will provide commentary from Fifth Street.
Grant Teaff, Baylor's former head football coach and athletic director, marked Baylor history by leading the Bears to 128 victories, two Southwest Conference championships and eight post-season bowl games. He was named National Coach of the Year in 1974 and SWC Coach of the Year six times. In his honor, the renovated athletic facilities at Floyd Casey Stadium were named the Grant Teaff Athletic Complex, and a life-size bronze statue of Teaff was unveiled in September as the centerpiece of the new Grant Teaff Plaza. He currently serves as executive director of the American Football Coaches Association, headquartered in Waco.
Donell Teaff, a member of the Baylor Board of Regents, is a permanent board member of the American Football Coaches' Wives Association. She has served as president of Baylor Round Table and as president, sponsor and adviser for the Baylor chapter and past national officer of Delta Delta Delta sorority. In 1998, she received the First Lady of Football Award from the All-American Football Foundation.
