Kappa Delta and the Place2BU's annual Battle of the Bands will showcase a variety of music talent at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, in the SUB Bowl.

"This year will be exciting because we have such great talent performing," said Amy Reeves, assistant director for campus programming. "We had some amazing demos submitted, and it was hard to select only five. We expect a very entertaining and unforgettable evening of great music."

Five student bands will perform for 20 minutes each. Bands scheduled to perform are Seth Philpott, Hello Racecar, Autumn Lights, Colby Amparan and Jordan Bellamy, Reeves said.

According to Reeves, bands submitted demos and the Place2BU and Kappa Delta chose the top five to perform. Each band consists of at least three Baylor students and at least one full-time student.

"We worked to ensure the show was well-rounded in style and talent so the audience enjoyed a taste of multiple music genres," Reeves said.

An incentive for bands to compete is the cash prizes offered. First place wins $750, second place is awarded $500 and third place receives $250, Reeves said.

A panel of six people will judge the competition. Two staff members representing the Student Life Division, two student judges and two local DJ's will decide the winners, according to Reeves.

The event is free and open to the public. Free Dr Pepper products, water and Halloween candy will be offered.

T-shirts for the event are $10 and will be on sale this week during lunch in the Bill Daniel Student Center, Penland Residence Hall and Memorial Residence Hall. Shirts also will be sold during the event. Proceeds from the t-shirts will cover the costs of the event.

"Anyone who buys a t-shirt will be entered in a drawing to win a new guitar," Reeves said.

Free Battle of the Bands guitar picks will be distributed during the event.

"This event is great because it is a competition, but it is also for students to just come to and enjoy music from a few of the very talented musicians Baylor has on its campus," Reeves said.
