Barry Kraus Debuts As Conductor Of Symphonic Band

Barry Kraus, Baylor University's newly appointed associate director of bands, will lead his inaugural concert as conductor of the Symphonic Band at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, in Jones Concert Hall.
Kraus joined the Baylor School of Music in the summer of 2002. His duties include conducting the 250-member Golden Wave Marching Band, conducting the Symphonic Band, teaching undergraduate conducting students, supervising student teachers and administrating the Baylor summer music camp programs.
Prior to his appointment at Baylor, Kraus served on the conducting faculty at the University of Texas, where he was the assistant to the director of bands. From 1994 to 1997, Kraus served as assistant band director at Waco High School, where he conducted the Symphonic Band, directed the Jazz Ensemble and taught trumpet. He holds a bachelor's degree from Oklahoma State University and a master's degree from Baylor.
The Symphonic Band's concert will include Smetana Fanfare by Karel Husa, the Frederick Fennell setting of Richard Strauss's song "Allerseelen," an arrangement for band by Mark H. Hindsley of the Marche militaire française from Camille Saint-Saëns's Suite algérienne, Luigi Zaninelli's Lagan Love, Nancy Galbraith's Danza de los duendes (Dance of the Goblins) and Norman Dello Joio's Variants on a Mediaeval Tune.
