Gossamer Albatross Builder To Speak At Air Science Presentation

The Baylor Institute for Air Science (BIAS) will sponsor presentations and a panel discussion on "The Future of Aviation: Growth, Sustainability and Responsibilities" at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, in Bennett Auditorium in the Draper Academic Building on the Baylor University Campus.
Dr. Paul MacCready, developer of the Gossamer Albatross, the first human powered aircraft to cross the English Channel, and more recently, the Gossamer Penguin, a solar-powered aircraft that caught the interest of the Department of Defense, will speak on "Sustainable Aviation: A Perspective From the Father of Human-Powered Flight."
Other speakers include Dr. Andres Zellweger, special assistant for aviation to the associate administrator for aerospace technology at NASA and former director of the FAA Office of Aviation Research; Dr. Sergio Trindade, former United Nations assistant secretary general for science and technology; and Dr. Volker Mohnen, professor at the Institute for Atmospheric Environmental Research and director of Quality Assurance/Science Activity Center of the World Meteorological Organization, a United Nations agency. Dr. Max Shauck, professor of aviation science and BIAS director, will make introductory and closing remarks.
