Village Days This Saturday at Baylor's Mayborn Museum Complex

Do you ever long for the "good old days" when life was much simpler?

On Saturday, Oct. 14, visitors are invited to travel back in time with Village Days at the Mayborn Museum Complex at Baylor University. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., special activities will take place in the Gov. Bill and Vara Daniel Historic Village, an outdoor component of the museum complex.

Visitors to Village Days will be able to watch cooking demonstrations at a real chuck wagon to see how cowboys ate along the trial as they drove their cattle to market or rode the range. They also can see a blacksmith work with red-hot metal to transform its shape, make a corn husk doll or dip their own candles to take home as a memento of the day.

Better yet, they can sit inside the one-room school house, see how travelers ate together at the local hotel, ring the church bell as the villagers did to call the community together, pump water from a well or just sit on a bench and enjoy the feeling of "days gone by."

In case of inclement weather, activities that can be moved will take place inside the Mayborn Museum.

Entrance to the museum is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors 65 and up, and $4 for children 18 months to 12 years. Museum members are admitted free. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, except on Thursdays when it remains open until 8 p.m., and Sundays from 1 to 5 pm.
