Baylor University's Mortar Board chapter will celebrate International Students' Day at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, in the basement of the Bill Daniel Student Center. The event will feature free food and drink and activities designed to encourage fellowship among international students.

"Baylor currently hosts more than 400 international students, representing more than 66 different countries," said Linda Klatt, director of International Student and Scholar Services.

International Students' Day traditionally celebrates student activism and honors the multiculturalism of international students. The date is scheduled on the anniversary of Nazis storming the University of Prague in 1939 after numerous demonstrations surrounding the Nazi's international oppression.

The University will have several opportunities to recognize its international students because ISSS also will celebrate International Week Nov. 13-17, said Klatt.

Mortar Board is a national network that includes more than 200 chapters. Since 1918, more than 226,000 college seniors have been initiated into the tradition of scholarship, leadership, and service.
