Baylor Hosts 16th Annual Texas Medieval Association Conference

The 16th annual meeting of the Texas Medieval Association (TEMA) will be held Friday and Saturday, Oct. 6 - 7, on the Baylor University campus.

The conference will consist of sessions on a variety of topics, such as medieval literature, art, music, drama, history and philosophy. Featured speakers will be scholars and professors from various universities, including the University of Notre Dame; California State University, Fresno; Massachusetts College of Art; University of North Carolina, Greensboro; University of Nebraska; and Albany State University, Georgia.

Also represented will be Baylor University, University of Texas at Austin, Rice University, Southern Methodist University, Texas Christian University, Texas Tech University and others. Sessions will take place in Moody Memorial Library.

Plenary sessions will be held on Friday and Saturday in Armstrong Browning Library. Featured speakers are Geradline Heng from the University of Texas at Austin, who will speak on The Invention of Race in the European Middle Ages at 3:45 p.m. on Friday, and Cynthia Neville from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, who will speak on Knights, Knighthood and Chivalric Culture in Gaelic Scotland, c. 1050 - 1300 at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.

TEMA was founded in 1986 and serves medievalists throughout the state of Texas, nationally and internationally through its conferences and publications. Membership in the association is open to all persons interested in any area of medieval studies and who have paid the annual membership fee.

One of the founding organizations of TEMA, Baylor hosts the TEMA annual conference every three to five years.
