Wide Range of Guest Speakers Energizes Fall Chapel Schedule

Authors, social activists, actors, musicians and a Nobel Prize winner will share expressions of their commitment to Christ during Chapel this fall. The hour-long services, which are open to the public, are held every Monday and Wednesday at 10 and 11 a.m. in Waco Hall.
Dr. John Polkinghorne, a Fellow of Queens' College in Cambridge and Canon Theologian of Liverpool who received the prestigious 2002 Templeton Prize, will speak on Sept. 30. The mathematical physicist and Anglican priest is one of the world's premier thinkers about the intersection of religion and science.
The former president of Costa Rica, Oscar Arias Sanchez, will appear on Oct. 2. Arias was elected president of Costa Rica in 1986 and brought together presidents of nine Latin American countries to negotiate peace in the region plagued with wars and conflicts. The Arias Peace Plan earned him the Nobel Peace Prize in 1987. He has continued to promote human development, global governance and human security since leaving office in 1990.
World Vision Inc. president Rich Stearns, whose Christian humanitarian organization serves the world's poorest children and families in nearly 100 countries, will speak on Oct. 9. World Vision, founded in 1950, helps transform the lives of those in need without regard to religious beliefs, gender, race or ethnic background.
Former CNN/USA weekend anchor and FOX news correspondent Andria Hall will speak on Nov. 13. Hall currently hosts "America at Worship," a Faith & Values Media program which airs locally on the Hallmark Channel.
Baylor graduates Heather Mercer and Dayna Curry, the foreign aid workers imprisoned in Afghanistan imprisoned by the Taliban for more than three months, will talk about their Christian relief and development work on Nov. 20.
Other Chapel speakers include Dr. N.T. Wright, Canon Theologian of Westminster Abbey, on Oct. 16, and Eldin Villafane, founding director of the Center for Urban Ministerial Education and professor of Christian social ethics at Gordon-Conwell Seminary, on Oct. 21.
Music guests this fall include popular Austin-based band, Salvador, who will perform on Oct. 14. The duo-piano team Nielson & Young will appear Nov. 11.
Christian comedian Carlos Oscar will appear Oct. 28. Ad Deum, a contemporary dance ensemble, will perform Nov. 4. The troupe is comprised of professional dancers from various parts of the world, including the United States, Switzerland, Austria and Chile.
