The Baylor University Alumni Association will present the First Family of Baylor Award to the Harman/Trippet family Friday, Sept. 20, during the intermission of the 7 p.m. "After Dark" performance in Waco Hall during Parents Weekend.
The award will be presented by Baylor Alumni Association president Pruitt Ashworth. The annual First Family of Baylor Award recognizes a multi-generational alumni family that has shown continued interest in and support of Baylor University.
Four generations of the Harman/Trippet family have attended Baylor, including 37 family members. First generation students include 1904 graduates William Murdoch Harman and his wife, Agnes Johnson Harman. Second generation students include William Murdoch Harman Jr. and his wife, Nelwyn Green Harman, both of whom graduated from Baylor in 1939. After her husband's death, Nelwyn Harman married 1930 Baylor graduate Horace Hood Trippet. Another second generation student, Brooks Harman, '40, was named after legendary Baylor president Samuel Palmer Brooks and served in the judge advocate general's office in Manila, Philippines, when it prosecuted Japanese war criminals after World War II.
Third generation students include Walker Green Harman, '69, who currently serves on Baylor's Board of Regents, and his brother, Russell Harman Trippett, who is president of Brothers Management Co. in Waco. The fourth generation of the family includes William Murdoch Harman IV ,'85, and Elizabeth Trippet Harman, '98.
