Autumn Moon Festival To Be Held At Baylor Sept. 21

The Baylor University Vietnamese Student Association will sponsor the annual Autumn Moon Festival from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, in the Barfield Drawing Room of the Bill Daniel Student Center. Tickets are $10 for non-members and $5 for VSA members and student performers.
The festival celebrates the beginning of the fall season in Vietnam and the harvest of crops.
"We've had 100 to 150 people come in previous years--usually parents, students, professors and faculty," said Don Vo, Baylor sophomore and president of VSA.
The event will feature a banquet serving traditional Vietnamese dishes. Singing and martial arts performances featuring students from Dallas will take place during the dinner. The martial arts students also will perform a dragon dance.
"The coolest part is the dragon dance," Vo said. "The room is pitch black. The dragon is fluorescent neon.The myth of the dragon in Asian culture is that the dragon controls the weather. The karate kids are under the dragon costume dancing."
Vo said the event is important because it represents the whole aspect of Asian culture, not just one type of Asian culture. "We are small [among Baylor's student body] but we have many different ethnic groups," he said.
