Armstrong Browning Benefactors' Day Set For Sept. 12

The many patrons of Baylor University's Armstrong Browning Library will be honored during an afternoon program scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 12.
The Benefactors' Day program, which is free and open to the public, will be held from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in the McLean Foyer of Meditation at the library, which houses the world's largest collection of memorabilia associated with poets Robert and Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Over the years, the library has become a mecca for those interested in the Brownings and their poetry.
The Sept. 12 date also marks the 156th anniversary of the Brownings' marriage in 1846. Robert Browning, who died 112 years ago, was one of the great British poets of the Victorian age. Some of his best-known poems include "The Pied Piper of Hamelin," which he wrote in 1842 to entertain a child, the son of a close friend, who was confined with a temporary illness. Elizabeth Barrett Browning, who died in 1861, is known chiefly for Sonnets from the Portuguese, love poems to her husband, which she wrote in 1850.
Keynote speaker during the Benefactors' Day program will be Dr. Reagan M. Ramsower, dean of libraries, professor of information systems, and associate vice president and chief information officer. He will address the role of Armstrong Browning Library in the 21st Century Library. Following the program, refreshments will be served in the Cox Reception Hall.
