Baylor Observances To Commemorate Sept. 11 Tragedies
Baylor University will commemorate the anniversary of the Sept. 11 tragedies with several opportunities for faculty, staff, students and community members to reflect on that fateful day one year ago.

Baylor's traditional Chapel services at 10 and 11 a.m. Sept. 11 in Waco Hall will be a time of worship and biblical reflection on the Christian response to the tragedies. Chapel is open to the public. For more information, contact the University Ministries office at (254) 710-3517.
The inspiring McLean Foyer of Meditation in Baylor's Armstrong Browning Library will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sept. 11 for reflection on the past year's events. The library is participating in "Celebrate America's Freedoms: A Day of Remembrance," in cooperation with the American Association of Museums and the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Guests can record their thoughts or observations concerning Sept. 11 in a journal that will become part of the library's archives. Baylor's Staff Council will provide the Baylor community with red, white and blue ribbons to wear in observance of Sept. 11. The ribbons will be available during Staff Forum, which will be held from 11 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Sept. 11 in Barfield Drawing Room in the Bill Daniel Student Center. Baylor's Center for American and Jewish Studies will host The Rev. Charles Curran, a Roman Catholic priest and prominent scholar of the social and ethical dimensions of Roman Catholic life, who will lecture on "September 11th: One Year After the Just War and the Catholic Tradition" from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in the Research Center at the J.M. Dawson Institute of Church-State Studies in Carroll Library.
The center also will hold a remembrance service featuring speakers from various religious traditions from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Paul and Katy Piper Great Hall at George W. Truett Theological Seminary. The service will be led by Dr. Hulitt Gloer, professor of preaching and Christian scriptures at Truett Seminary. Assistant University Carillonneur Lynnette Geary will perform a memorial recital at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 11 on the McLane Carillon located in the tower of Pat Neff Hall. Geary's recital will include the "Doxology," the McLane Carillon's signature piece arranged by University Carillonneur Herbert Colvin. Other selections include "In Memorium - September 11, 2001," written by John Courter four days after the attacks. "In Memorium" will be played at carillon concerts throughout the country on Sept. 11. The Asian Student Association, Baylor Women's League, Magellan Society, Sociology Club and Alpha Kappa Delta Honor society will host a video showing of "9-11 Remembrances" from 7:30 to 8:50 p.m. Sept. 11 in Bennett Auditorium in the Draper Academic Building. The event, which is open to the public, will be followed by discussion and participant reflection. A university-wide service will be held at 9 p.m. Sept. 11 in the SUB Bowl outside the Bill Daniel Student Center. Baylor President Robert B. Sloan Jr., Dean of University Ministries Todd Lake and the combined Heavenly Voices and Baylor Religious Hour choirs will lead the time of prayer, worship and reflection. The service is open to the public.
