Baylor Welcomes Class of 2010

Baylor University welcomed to campus its most academically accomplished freshman class in history, as more than 2,800 first-year students moved into residence halls bright and early on Aug. 17.

Students and their families were assisted by more than 1,000 volunteers, who helped with "Movin' In and Movin' Up," the theme of this year's giant logistical operation. The volunteers included Baylor President John M. Lilley, who was up early on Thursday morning, greeting new students and carrying boxes for freshmen who will be living at North Russell Hall.

It was an interesting move-in day for Kokernot Hall residents, who have some challenges this academic year with ongoing construction on Brooks Village and a temporary lack of parking. Kokernot residents took it in stride, though, with an "Island Party" that included Beach Boys music playing in the background, Island-themed t-shirts and flower leis for all residents. Their move-in was quick and efficient, thanks to about 100 student volunteers from Baylor's campus recreation staff who assisted Kokernot residents and their families.

The Class of 2010 will be the most academically talented in Baylor's history with an average SAT around 1212, up from last year's previous record high of 1196. Freshmen, as well as the rest of the student body, will begin classes on Monday, Aug. 21.
