Mayborn Museum Complex Presents Amazonian Reptiles July 15

The Cameron Park Zoo will present two informal talks on Reptiles of the Amazon at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, July 15, at Baylor University's Mayborn Museum Complex. The zoo also will bring live reptile specimens to the museum for visitors to see. The program is presented by the Mayborn in conjunction with its summer traveling exhibit, "Feathered Treasures: Ceremonial Objects of the Amazon."
"This beautiful and rare exhibit has sparked our curiosity about the mysterious Amazon rainforest and its flora and fauna. This event will offer insight into the world of the rainforest and the numerous reptiles that call it home," said Dr. Ellie Caston, director of the Mayborn Museum Complex. "We are grateful to the staff of the Cameron Park Zoo for joining with us to present this enlightening event."
Museum members will be admitted free, and admission to the museum for non-members is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors, and $4 for children. There is no additional charge for the reptile event.
On loan from the Houston Museum of Natural Science, the Amazon traveling exhibition will be on view through Aug. 20. The exhibit features headdresses, masks, breastplates, full-body costumes and other items made by indigenous tribes found deep in the Amazon rain forest. They provide a rare glimpse into the vanishing cultures of the Amazon.
This exhibit is made possible through a generous grant from the Baylor/Waco Foundation and a matching gift from the Thomas E. and Emilyne Weed Anding Foundation.
