Services Friday For Truett Professor Bill Treadwell
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 26, for the Rev. William C. (Bill) Treadwell Jr., associate professor of Christian education and leadership/administration at Baylor University's George W. Truett Theological Seminary, who died April 23 at a Waco hospital.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Seventh and James Baptist Church in Waco, with the Rev. Dr. Raymond Bailey officiating. The family will receive visitors following the service in the narthex of the church. Interment will be in Greenwood, S.C.
Born Feb. 25, 1932, in Birmingham, Ala., Treadwell was a graduate of Union University and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. A founder of the Alliance of Baptists, he served churches in South Carolina, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina and Texas. His teaching career included posts at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and Georgetown College where he taught as an adjunct professor. He joined Truett Seminary as an associate professor in 1995.
Survivors include his wife, Lu, and his mother, Frances, of Waco; his children, Cynthia and her husband, the Rev. Franklin LaMaster, of Chapel Hill, N.C.; the Rev. William C. Treadwell III and his wife, Christine, of McKinney; and Christy and her husband, the Rev. Dr. James Somerville, of Washington, D.C. He also is survived by his grandchildren, Rebecca and Needham Atkins; Ashley and Erin LaMaster; Ellie and Catherine Somerville; and Caleb, Colton and Caroline Treadwell. Finally, he is survived by his little black dog, Salado, AKC.
The Treadwell family wishes to express its deepest appreciation to the medical community in Waco for their skilled and attentive care.
Pallbearers will be the Rev. Roy Joe Ham, Grant Teaff, Dr. Keith Hartberg, Dr. Terry York, the Rev. Jonathan Grant, Dr. Michael Morgan, Dr. Scott Walker and Dr. Bill Turner. Honorary pallbearers will be Truett faculty.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Treadwell Christian Education Award at George W. Truett Theological Seminary: Treadwell Endowed Fund, PO Box 97050, Baylor University, Waco, Texas 76798-7050.
