Baylor Business School Honors Students, Faculty, Staff

Baylor University's Hankamer School of Business recently recognized successful students, faculty and staff at the school's annual awards banquet held at Ridgewood Country Club in Waco.
Kyle J. Hurst, lecturer in economics, was named the Most Popular Business Professor. The award is presented by Alpha Kappa Psi business fraternity following a vote by the student body. A member of the business faculty since 2001, Hurst received a bachelor of business administration degree and a master of science degree, both from Baylor.
Other faculty members honored during the program include Dr. C. William Thomas, professor of accounting and holder of The J.E. Bush Professorship in Accounting, who received the Hankamer Distinguished Professor Award; Carrolle H. Kamperman, senior lecturer in business communication, and Dr. P. Blaine McCormick, assistant professor of management, who received Teaching Excellence Awards; and Dr. Dawn S. Carlson, assistant professor of management, who received the Hankamer Young Researcher Award.
Peggy Davies, administrative associate in the department of finance, insurance and real estate, and Barbara Gillum, manager of undergraduate advising and degree planning, received the 2002 Outstanding Staff Awards.
Nearly 20 student awards were presented, including two to Waco senior Michael Kabat, who received the Highest Ranking Man in Business Award from Alpha Kappa Psi, and the Robert E. Cook Award for Outstanding Student in Economics. The Outstanding Woman in Business Award from Delta Sigma Pi went to Camaron Chai, a Houston senior, who also received the Accounting Excellence Award. Two awards also went to Ricardo Rochetti, a Dallas senior, who was named Outstanding Student in International Business and Outstanding Student in Entrepreneurship.
Keynote speaker at the banquet was Richard F. Hawkins, vice chairman of Hill's Pet Nutrition Inc. and CEO of Hill's International. Hawkins, a former Baylor baseball player, received a bachelor of business administration degree from the university in 1969 and a master of business administration degree in 1970.
Master of ceremonies was Becky Grounds, president of the Hankamer Student Organization.
