The President's Concert To Be Presented April 20

The 2002 Baylor University President's Concert will be presented at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 20, in Jones Concert Hall. This year's performance will be given by the Baylor Symphony Orchestra, the Baylor Choral Union and the Vienna International Piano Duo, Krassimira Jordan and Wolfgang Watzinger.
Opening the concert will be Richard Strauss's orchestral fantasy, Don Juan, Op. 20, which will be followed by a work for chorus and orchestra by Johannes Brahms, his Schicksalslied ("Song of Destiny"), Op. 54. The Baylor Symphony Orchestra will be joined by the 137-voice Baylor Choral Union comprised of the Concert Choir and A Cappella Choir.
Following intermission, the orchestra and the Vienna International Piano Duo will perform Francis Poulenc's sparkling Concerto for Two Pianos and Orchestra. This duo has performed in Europe and North America. Jordan is Artist-in-Residence at Baylor and Watzinger is professor of piano at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.
Concluding the program will be the Academic Festival Overture of Johannes Brahms. This orchestral work was written by Brahms in acknowledgment of an honorary doctorate bestowed on him by the University of Breslau in 1879.
