Islamic Expert Yvonne Haddad To Speak April 17 And 18

Dr. Yvonne Haddad, professor of Islam and Christian-Muslim Relations at Georgetown University, will speak at the 24th annual Charles Edmondson Historical Lectures April 17-18 in Bennett Auditorium of the Draper Academic Building on the Baylor University campus. The theme of Haddad's lectures is "American Muslims in Transition."
The topic of the first lecture will be "The Shaping of the American Muslim Community" at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 17.
"American Muslims in the Aftermath of 9/11," will be Haddad's focus for the second lecture at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 18.
Haddad received her bachelor's degree from Beirut College for Women in Beirut, Lebanon, a master's degree in modern Middle East history from University of Wisconsin, a master of religious education from Boston University and a doctorate from Hartford Seminary. She has taught at a number of universities in the United States, the Middle East, India and Africa.
Haddad has edited or authored nearly 20 books and numerous articles on contemporary Islamic issues, women in Islam and Islam in America.
The Edmondson Historical Lectures, sponsored by the history department, are made possible by an endowment established by Dr. E. Bud Edmondson of Longview to honor his father, Charles S.B. Edmondson.
